Episode 23: “A New Element to Entrepreneurship” with Carbon Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Shayne Veramallay

Article by Josh Park

Entrepreneur. CEO. Founder.
These three titles are some of the most desirable careers in the market right now.
More and more articles are popping up across the internet about people who have transformed their lives by starting their own companies.
Entrepreneurship is a career in which people can choose their own agenda, determine their own future, and create a vision that they are passionate about. Plus, if they’re successful, they are often recognized as an unstoppable force of pure motivation, undaunted by the numerous challenges of building a business in the sea of competition and failures.
Often times, however, these entrepreneurs focus on developing technology for the sake of technology. We modify slight nuances in mobile apps and call it innovation. We make processes more efficient to streamline consumer behavior and call it disruption.
“What is the rush towards innovation that makes mankind more obsolete when so many people in this world would cherish the opportunity to have a living wage and a sense of dignity that allows them to provide for themselves and their family?”
These words are part of the mission statement at Carbon,
a social enterprise that takes proven solutions and viable economic models to create blueprints in order to replicate solutions around the world. The company focuses on socially conscious entrepreneurship, building upon ideas that would make a positive, community-wide impact based on three pillars: literacy, women resiliency and empowerment, and resource efficiency.
In this inspiring episode, Alexander Star interviews Shayne Veramallay, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Carbon.
Even though this company has only been around for a few months, Carbon has already partnered with other organizations that focus on one or more of the three pillars. For example, in regards to women empowerment and resource efficiency, Carbon has already partnered with a company based in India that takes wastes from the streets (plastic bags, bottles, cardboards, etc.) and makes creatively recycled products for events. This company was built from the ground up by a group of women that started working from their own slum huts who have then been able to fund their children’s education through college as a result of their amazing hard work. Partnering with this company, Carbon is bringing their successful model to the U.S. and training women from underprivileged backgrounds to replicate a socially conscious business within their own communities.
Through several eye-opening experiences, Shayne recounts how he was inspired to start Carbon with a unique mission statement to truly make the world a better place. Tune in to this episode to learn more about his amazing story!
