This is something we ALL struggle with. Knowing how to beat procrastination is one of the most important things you could learn on your personal development journey, as it influences your productivity which in turn influences the results you get in your life.
In this video Michelle shares:
When it comes to beating procrastination, we have to look deeper than just thinking about how we can stop being lazy. There’s more to this than that.
There’s actually biological reasons that your survival brain is keeping you away from working on the things you know you need to get done.
There’s a part of your brain called the “amygdala”, it controls the fight and flight responses of your body and mind. To beat procrastination, we have to fundamentally understand how this part of your brain influences your behavior and causes you to be lazy and not get things done, and then learn to work with it instead of fighting against it.
One of the things procrastination is caused by is FEAR.
Fear of:
Name Your Fear - get comfortable with naming it, acknowledging it and seeing how it’s been holding us back.
Get Clarity - If you don’t know exactly what you’re supposed to be doing, and when, then you feel overwhelmed because you don’t even know where to start!
Remedy this by getting clear on exactly what you have to do, and creating a plan.
Make your goals personal - make sure your goals are actually important to you. If you don’t care about what you’re doing, you’ll never feel motivated to push through procrastination, and you’ll end up being lazy and unproductive.
One Step at a Time - chunk your action steps down to bite sized pieces. When you only have a small step in front of you that’s slightly outside of your comfort zone, your primitive brain doesn’t see it as quite dangerous, which makes it easier to not procrastinate.
Remember, procrastination is caused by fear. And that’s the long and short of how to beat and overcome procrastination.
We all struggle with procrastination, it’s just about setting your mind right and setting yourself up for success on a daily basis, so that every day can be a victory.
Remember, you’re only one goal away. Go out there and make it your era!
